Over the past 50 years, the World Health Organization (WHO) uses World Health Day to help bring focus and awareness to important health issues with tools to aid discussion. WHO picks each year's subject based on a current pressing health issue and dedicates the week to conferences and activities about the topic. Past themes included insurance, mental health and general wellness to bigger topics, like road safety and the effect of climate change on our health.  

  

This year WHO’s mission is to help build a healthier and fairer world. Their campaign will specifically focus on providing better access to health services to communities and groups that were particularly impacted by COVID-19. In addition, WHO made 2021 the International Year of Health and Care Workers (YHCW) in appreciation for their unwavering dedication all healthcare heroes continue to give in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
